🚢 Service 04  ·  Vessel Acquisition Advisory

From shortlist to closing — the deal structured, financed, and delivered.

End-to-end deal support for buyers. Shortlisting, negotiation support, financing facilitation, and delivery supervision. Technical verification runs through our Marine Forensics methodology — here, our focus is getting the deal itself structured, financed, and closed cleanly. We work for the buyer — not the broker, not the seller, not the bank.

VERIFIED · NOT ASSUMED
What We Do

Buying a vessel is a deal to be structured, not just an asset to be inspected.

A vessel purchase is a negotiation, a financing question, and a closing process, layered on top of a technical one. Getting the technical read right — class history, documentation, condition — is necessary but not sufficient. Deals stall or fall through on shortlisting the wrong candidates, financing that isn't lined up in time, or a delivery process with no one supervising the handover. That is the gap this service closes.

We have supported buyers transacting on bulk carriers, product and chemical tankers, MPP/multipurpose vessels, container vessels, AHTS offshore vessels, and general cargo ships — through brokers in Singapore, Dubai, and Hong Kong. Where a transaction needs capital arranged alongside the deal — syndicate or partner introductions, financing structured against the acquisition, or terms negotiated with a lender — we structure that in parallel with the shortlisting and negotiation process, not as an afterthought once a vessel is already chosen.

Every mandate also gets a full technical read before commitment — run through our Marine Forensics & PPI methodology, the same one behind findings like a 3x bollard-pull discrepancy and a container-capacity mismatch caught before signing. That page covers the technical verification in depth; this page is about the deal around it — getting it shortlisted, financed, negotiated, and closed.

Seavantek provides acquisition advisory as a standalone service — you do not need to be a managed fleet client to access it. We do not advise on pricing directly, but we do structure the financing, the negotiation support, and the closing process around the technical position our findings give you.

What is included

Shortlist review — evaluation of candidate vessels against your requirements

Red-flag screening — flag state history, class society, detention record, before time is spent on a candidate

Financing facilitation — syndicate or partner introductions, deal structuring, and terms negotiation where a transaction needs capital arranged

Technical verification — document review and PPI, run through our Marine Forensics & PPI methodology

Seller & lender Q&A support — questions put to seller or financing counterparties and responses evaluated

Delivery supervision — bunker quantity, condition on delivery, taking-over survey

Post-delivery assessment — condition report and immediate action items

How It Works

From mandate to taking over the vessel.

01

Buyer Mandate

You tell us what you want: vessel type, DWT range, age, budget, trade route, timeline. We confirm what we can realistically assess in your timeline and at what cost.

02

Shortlist, Screen & Structure

Candidates are screened on flag state, class society, detention history, and age profile before time is spent further. In parallel, if financing is part of the plan, we start structuring that — syndicate or lender conversations run alongside shortlisting, not after a vessel is chosen.

03

Verify & Negotiate

Full technical verification (via Marine Forensics & PPI) and financing terms are finalised together. A written findings report anchored to primary source documents gives you a factual basis for price negotiation, and financing terms are locked before commitment.

04

Delivery

We attend delivery. Bunker survey, condition verification, taking-over checklist, and sign-off. Any condition discrepancies from inspection are noted and resolved before the vessel changes hands.

Why It Matters

What changes when the technical advisor works for the buyer.

👤

We work for you

A broker's commercial interest is in the deal closing. Our commercial interest is in you having accurate technical information. Those are not always the same thing.

📄

Primary source only

We read the actual class records, not the class abstract the seller prepared. We read the Loading Manual, not the cargo capacity table on the spec sheet. The difference is significant.

⏱

Fast turnaround when needed

When deals move fast, our document review can be completed in 5 working days. Physical inspections require vessel access. We are direct about what can be done in the time available.

📋

Written and referenced

Every finding cites the source document. If a seller challenges a finding, we show them the page. If something cannot be verified, we say so — which is itself a finding.

🔍

Standalone service

You do not need to be a managed fleet client to commission a technical audit or PPI. We take on single-vessel acquisition mandates as a standalone engagement.

🎯

Negotiating basis

A documented technical findings report gives you a factual basis for price negotiation or remediation requests. “Our surveyor found” is weaker than “Page 14 of the class survey record shows.”

Real Findings

The technical layer that backs every deal we structure.

Every acquisition mandate carries the same rigor underneath it. That verification — certified figures cross-checked against class records and primary machinery — is what gives you a factual basis to negotiate, finance, or walk away, before price is locked in.

Backed by Marine Forensics

The verification behind the deal

Two recent mandates: an 8,500 DWT MPP vessel where container capacity was checked against the actual Loading Manual, and an AHTS vessel where bollard pull was confirmed at 120 tonnes against a spec sheet figure of 400 — a discrepancy that would have invalidated the vessel for its intended work. Full detail on both sits with our Marine Forensics service. See our full PPI & Marine Forensics approach →
